Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Pohuwato Regency in Gorontalo, Indonesia, early Thursday (24/7/2025) at 3.50 am, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The epicenter was located inland, 8 km southeast of Pohuwato, at a depth of 132 km. BMKG confirmed that the quake poses no tsunami risk, according to antaranews.com
Shaking was felt at intensity levels of III–IV on the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in Pohuwato, III in Gorontalo and Bulungan, and II–III in Manado and North Minahasa.
“The quake was inland and deep, which reduced the risk of surface damage and tsunami,” said a BMKG spokesperson. Authorities urge residents to remain cautious of potential aftershocks.
The MMI scale ranges from I, or not felt, to XII, or total destruction. Level IV indicates moderate shaking felt by many indoors, with slight structural disturbances.
