Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Amid widespread floods and landslides in West Sumatra, the Marapi Volcano erupted on Tuesday (2/12/2025) at 10.34 am, sending volcanic ash from its summit across several areas of Agam Regency and disrupting visibility.
Residents in Baso and Canduang reported vehicle surfaces covered in ash, which was quite thick and affected visibility. They were advised to wear masks
Authorities confirmed the eruption was recorded with a maximum amplitude of 30.3 mm and a duration of 51 seconds, though the height of the ash column could not be observed. The volcano remains at Level II (Waspada), and the Mount Marapi Volcano Monitoring Post urged the public to stay outside a 3-kilometer radius from the crater, according to antaranews.com
Officials also warned communities living near rivers flowing from Mount Marapi’s peak to remain alert for possible volcanic mudflow during heavy rain and to use masks during ashfall to prevent respiratory problems.
