Inp.polri.go.id - Dumai. A fire accompanied by a loud explosion broke out at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Refinery Unit II Duma, Riau on Wednesday night (1/10//2025), raising alarm among nearby residents.

“The situation is currently being controlled, and no casualties have been reported so far,” said Agustiawan, the spokesperson for Pertamina Dumai, as quoted by antaranews.com 

He urged the public to remain calm as emergency teams work to contain the blaze at the H2 12 unit, which was under maintenance.

Thousands of locals gathered along Jalan Putri Tujuh to witness the fire, prompting Pertamina security and TNI-Polri personnel to manage traffic for emergency vehicles. Witnesses said that the explosion was extremely loud, followed by thick smoke. Many residents evacuated their families fearing structural collapse..

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion. Firefighting teams continue operations to prevent the fire from spreading, while Pertamina expressed apologies for the disruption to the community and requested prayers for a swift resolution.
