Inp.polri.go.id - Kuala Lumpur. Paul Yong Choo Kiong, a Malaysian politician from Ipoh, Perak, must serve an eight-year prison sentence for raping an Indonesian domestic worker, after the Federal Court of Malaysia rejected his final appeal on Wednesday (1/10/2025.
Yong, 55, had previously received 13 years and two lashes from the High Court in July 2022, later reduced to eight years by the Court of Appeal in March 2024. The Federal Court confirmed the verdict, stating that the protected testimony of the 23-year-old victim was credible and properly admitted under Malaysia’s Witness Protection Act 2009 and procedural law.
Ambassador to Malaysia, Dato’ Indera Hermono, welcomed the ruling, highlighting the challenges posed by Yong’s influence, public demonstrations in his support, and attempts to sway the victim’s family.
“The Federal Court’s decision ensures justice for an Indonesian citizen who suffered grievous abuse,” Ambassador Hermono said, expressing hope that other Indonesians victims of workplace abuse will also see justice through the Malaysian legal system.
