Inp.polri.go.id - Medan.  The panel of judges at the Medan District Court in North Sumatra has sentenced Wardani Ibrahim, a resident of Aceh, to death for his role as a courier in the transportation of 43 kilograms of methamphetamine, locally known as sabu-sabu. Chief Judge Dahlan handed down the sentence on Tuesday (5/12/2023), citing Ibrahim's conviction under Law No. 35 of 2009 on Narcotics. The charges include conspiracy, offering for sale, selling, buying, receiving, acting as an intermediary, trading, exchanging or delivering 43 kilograms of methamphetamine, antaranewslcom reported. "The defendant's actions do not support the government's anti-narcotics programme; they are highly dangerous and harmful to the younger generation," Chief Judge Dahlan said. The verdict was in line with the prosecution's request for the death penalty, which was submitted by Medan prosecutor Risnawati Ginting. During the trial, it was revealed that Ibrahim had contacted man, identified as Sofyan or Tulang, to inform him of a shipment of methamphetamine left at his home overnight. Sofyan received a bag of the meth and was instructed by another person to deliver it to another person identified as Evi for a price of Rp 300 million. The transaction was to take place near the Marelan Bridge in Medan. However, the deal fell through when Evi failed to produce the agreed amount. Eventually, Ibrahim was arrested by officers from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN), along with the incriminating evidence. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
