Metro Jaya Police Chief Bans Firearms During May Day Security Operations

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Karyoto, instructed his subordinates not to carry firearms during the May Day demonstration on Wednesday (1/5/2024).

"The Jakarta Police Chief emphasized that firearms should not be carried," said Metro Jaya Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Ary Syam Indrardi on Tuesday.

During the assembly, police officers have to undergo checks beforehand and are required to prioritize a humane approach in securing the labor demonstration.

"Officers are prohibited from using firearms, and checks will be conducted tomorrow by each controlling officer, overseen by our colleagues from the police chief," he Chief Ary Syam said.

A total of 3,454 officers from the police and military will be deployed to secure the demonstration.

Chief Ary Syam called on the public not to worry about the Labor Day celebration and protesters to express their aspirations peacefully.
