Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police have uncovered a personal data manipulation case involving pre-registered mobile SIM cards.
“This operation began on12 July 2025 after we received public reports and launched a cyber patrol. We discovered a LinkedIn account impersonating someone using stolen personal data,” said Superintendent Fian Yunus,the Deputy Director of Cyber Crime at Metro Jaya Police, in a press briefing Friday (25/7/2025)/.
Four suspects, identified as IER (51), KK (62), F (46), and FRR (30), have been arrested for illegally using other people’s identities to register SIM cards, according to antaranews.com.
Each suspect played a specific role. One used registered numbers to pose as family members on WhatsApp, while others sold pre-registered SIM cards, gathered ID numbers from Google searches, and distributed them for profit.
The police seized five phones, 154 registered SIMs, and other digital evidence.
The suspects face up to 12 years in prison and Rp12 billion in fines under the Electronic Information Law and the Personal Data Protection Law.
