Inp.polri.go.id - Maybrat. The Indonesian Military's Task Force Infantry Battalion 133/YS foiled an armed criminal group (KKB)'s attack on construction workers building a community health centre in Kampung Ayata, Aifat Timur Tengah district, Maybrat regency, Southwest Papua. Colonel Andhika Ganessakti, the Commander of the Task Force Infantry Battalion, said that KKB's activities had continued for three consecutive days, culminating in a gun battle between the group and the Ayata Post Patrol Team, antaranews.com reported. "The malicious intent was foiled by Task Force Infantry Battalion 133/YS, which conducted perimeter patrols, causing three members of the group to flee into the forest," he said on Saturday ( 24/2/2024). Commander Andhika said the incident began when construction workers Ansar, 43, and Faan Umpain, 35, noticed several suspicious people lurking near the construction site. Feeling intimidated, the construction workers stopped their work and reported the situation to the Ayata Post. "In response to the workers' report, the Ayata Post Perimeter Patrol Team of Task Force Infantry Battalion 133/YS immediately conducted patrols around the construction site," he added. During the patrol, the team spotted three armed members of the separatist group carrying improvised firearms and machetes, who were spying on the workers around the health centre construction site. "I urge both the community and the construction workers to remain vigilant and not hesitate to report any suspicious activity to us," said Commander Andhika. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
