Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Religious Affairs, Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, announced that Religious Affairs Offices (KUA) will undergo transformation to serve not only Muslims but also believers of other religions. "We have agreed from the outset that KUA will be established as a central religious service provider for all faiths. KUA can be used as a venue for marriages of all religions,"he said in statement on Saturday (24/2/2024) According to Minister Yaqut, by expanding the function of KUA as a place for registering marriages of other religions, it is hoped that marriage and divorce data can be more effectively integrated, antaranews.com. "Currently, if we look at our non-Muslim brothers and sisters, they register their marriages in civil registration. However, that should be the responsibility of the Ministry of Religious Affairs," he said. The Minister hoped that the halls available in KUA could be used as temporary places of worship for non-Muslims who are still struggling to establish their own places of worship due to economic, social, and other factors. "Let's assist our non-Muslim brothers and sisters to perform their worship to the best of their ability. It is the duty of Muslims as the majority to protect our minority brothers and sisters, not the other way around," he said. Director General of Islamic Guidance, Kamaruddin Amin, said that in 2024, they would launch KUA as a center for cross-functional and interfaith religious services. "This year, we will soon launch KUA as a center for cross-functional and interfaith religious services," he said. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
