inp.polri.go.id - Timika. Mimika Regent, Johannes Rettob, implores all public in the region to not be provoked with the shooting incident in Alama District on Monday.

Speaking in Timika on Thursday (8/8/2024), Johannes, representing the people of Timika, offered his condolences for the passing of the New Zealander Pilot, Glen Malcolm Conning, who was transporting health workers to Alama District.

He stressed that government and security officials should not let similar tragedy from happening again and implored the public to remain calm and unprovoked by the situation.

“The helicopter owned by Intan Angkasa Air Service company, piloted by Glen Malcolm Conning, was transporting a medical unit to Alama Local Health Center,” explains Johannes.

Johannes adds that the helicopter has been on duty for two years to transport medical workers from Timika to Alama, and vice versa.

Furthermore, he explains that due to limitations in Alama District, it is not possible for health workers to be on duty continuously, so a shift system is implemented which also applies in other rural health centers.

“There are eight health workers and all have been returned to Timika safely. They will be sent back after receiving confirmation from the security forces,” Johannes explains.
