Inp.polri.go.id - Trenggalek. The Trenggalek Sub-regional Police Traffic Unit have reiterated that the minimum age for electric bicycle users is 12 years old to reduce the risk of accidents and ensure the safety of younger riders.

Assistant Inspector Agus Prayitno, the Trenggalek Police Head of Traffic, explained during a road safety campaign on Tuesday (10/9/2024)that electric bicycles are regulated by the Ministry of Transportation’s Regulation No. 45 of 2020.

The regulation covers various motorized electric vehicles, including electric scooters and hoverboards, and mandates safety features like lights, reflectors, and functional brakes, according to antaranews.com.

In addition, users must wear helmets, avoid carrying passengers unless the bike is designed for it, and adhere to a speed limit of 25 km/h. Electric bicycles are allowed only in designated areas such as bike lanes, residential zones, and car-free areas.

Chief Agus urged parents to supervise their children when using electric bicycles, emphasizing the importance of parental guidance in ensuring the safety of young riders.
