Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has launched on Wednesday (11/9/2024) the construction of Phase 1 of the East-West Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line, which will span 24.5 kilometers from Medan Satria in Bekasi to Tomang in West Jakarta. 

“We aim to expand the reach of the MRT, starting with this East-West line from Medan Satria to Tomang,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The new corridor will extend the existing North-South line, which has been in operation since March 2019, running from Lebak Bulus to Hotel Indonesia (HI). 

President Jokowi emphasized that the MRT has already transformed Jakarta's transportation system, serving over 120 million passengers since its launch.

The ongoing construction of Phase 2A, connecting HI to Kota, is expected to further enhance public transport and modernize Jakarta’s infrastructure.

Also present during the launch were Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono, and Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Masaki Yasushi.
