inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, Abdul Kadir Karding, said that migrant workers contribute to the country's foreign exchange with up to IDR 227 trillion per year.
In his statement, he said that if the sector could be further optimized from upstream to downstream, foreign exchange from migrant workers could overtake oil and gas foreign exchange.
In addition, he said that the protection of migrant workers must continue to be optimized according to President Prabowo Subianto's mandate. His party is also committed to fixing the problem starting from recruitment, placement, until after retirement.
"We will increase the number of high-skilled workers while reducing the low-skilled workers a bit slowly. On the other hand, we will also tighten the requirements to ensure that they are not easily exploited," he said.
He also believes that this migrant worker sector will help the government a lot, especially in reducing unemployment in the country.
