inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, emphasized the government's commitment to farmers by raising the government purchase price (HPP) for unhusked rice and boldly confronting the rice mafia to protect the interests of farmers, consumers, and maintain national food stability.
He stated that one of the main policies was raising the government purchase price (HPP) for unhusked rice to IDR 6,500 per kilogram, as a manifestation of the government's commitment to farmers, as directed by President Prabowo Subianto.
"We care deeply about farmers, so we raised the HPP, the government purchase price for unhusked rice, to IDR 6,500 (per kg) on the orders of the President," he said, as reported by Antaranews on Sunday (8/24/2025).
Andi explained that the increase in the HPP successfully boosted the Farmer Exchange Rate (NTP), thereby improving farmer welfare, which also demonstrated the government's commitment to protecting agricultural businesses from price pressures.
Furthermore, the government ensures a secure rice supply with stocks of over 4 million tons, significantly higher than the 2023–2024 stock of only 1 million tons, which required Indonesia to import the commodity.
"Previously, we imported rice in 2023–2024, with small stocks of just over 1 million tons. Now, our rice stocks are over 4 million tons. We are grateful for this," he explained.
He dismissed the notion that the government is indifferent to rising rice prices, emphasizing concrete steps to protect farmers and consumers through various strategic and measured policies.
The government has asked the public not to be easily provoked by negative issues, as all steps taken are evidence of real support for farmers and consumers, as well as safeguarding the interests of the people and national food security.
