The Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi aims the trials of Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Airport in North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan would be in July 2024. “Today, we have seen that the construction of the airport is going well accordingly. We aim to finish its construction on July and ready for trials,” says Minister Budi Karya in his written statement on Wednesday (1/24/24). Budi says that since January to July 2024, the construction work and the operation preparation has begun. He also says that the airport construction would be accelerated by procuring more equipment and adding more work hours. The airport was built to support the government activities and connectivity in IKN. The airport, located 23 km from the center point of IKN and 120 km from Balikpapan has a terminal area of 7,350 square meters (m2) and an airport area of 347 hectares. The airstrip has a length of 3,000 meters with a width of 45 meters which could handle the landing of Boeing 777-3000ER and Airbus A380. After his inspection of the airport, Budi also visits the construction work of automated rail transit (ART) in IKN. “The ART will be in West Sumbu and East Sumbu. We aim to finish its construction and ready to be used in August,” says Budi Karya. (ad/ndt/pr/nm)
