Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Ministry of Religious Affairs has officially set March 1 2025 as the first day of Ramadan, confirming the start of the fasting month for Muslims nationwide.
“The meeting determined that Ramadan begins on Saturday,” Religious Minister Nasaruddin Umar announced Friday (28/2/2025).
The decision followed hilal (crescent moon) sightings in Aceh, where two sworn observers confirmed it met the required threshold—3 degrees in height and 6.4 degrees elongation—based on regional consensus, as reported by antaranews.com.
Observers were stationed at 125 locations across Indonesia. Umar noted, however, that Ramadan’s start might differ in other countries due to varying moon observations.
The meeting involved religious leaders, astronomers, and diplomats, concluding with a press conference after Maghrib prayers.
