Inp.polri.go.id - Bandarlampung. Mount Anak Krakatau, situated in the Sunda Strait, erupted on Sunday night (26/11/2023) , with the observed ash column reaching approximately 1,000 meters above the summit, equivalent to 1,157 meters above sea level.
Andi Suardi, the Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Rajabasa Regency, South Lampung, confirmed the incident that took place at 21:08 WIB, as reported by antaranews.com.
"There was an eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 9:06 pm. The observed height of the eruption column is about 1,000 meters above the summit, which is 1,157 meters above sea level," he stated.
Andi added that the ash column was seen in a greyish-grey color with medium to high intensity toward the northwest, and the eruption had been recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 78 mm and a duration of 45 seconds.
He explained that the closest settlement to Anak Krakatau is on the island of Sebesi, approximately 16.5 kilometers away.
Andi urged the public and fishermen to maintain a safe distance from the Anak Krakatau area within a five-kilometer radius.
"At present, Mount Anak Krakatau is at Level III alert, with a recommendation for the public, fishermen, and mountaineers not to approach the mountain within a five-kilometer radius," he advised.
