Indonesia Sends 11 Strong Lifters to Olympic Qualifiers in Qatar

The Indonesian Weightlifting Federation  is sending a strong team of 11 lifters to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Grand Prix II in Doha, Qatar, from 4-14 December, which is a key qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games. The Indonesian weightlifting team, led by Pura Darmawan, consists of five male athletes, including Eko Yuli Irawan and Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, who broke the world record at the 2022 Asian Games. The female contingent consists of six talented lifters, including Juliana Klarisa and Nurul Akmal, antaranews.com reported. "We are scheduled to leave on 1 December 2023, undergo final checks on December 2 and start competing around 3 December 2023" said Pura. He added: "We ask for your prayers for the Indonesian athletes competing in Qatar to achieve their best results. At the last IWF Grand Prix I in Havana, Cuba, the Indonesian team secured nine gold medals and one silver medal. Rahmat's outstanding performance at the Asian Games 2022, where he won a gold medal and set a record, showcased Indonesia's weightlifting prowess. At the last edition of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Indonesia sent a team of five lifters, contributing to the nation's strong presence in weightlifting. Since its debut at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, weightlifting has been a constant source of pride for Indonesia, with seven silver and eight bronze medals. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
