Inp.polri.go.id - Maluku. Mount Dukono in North Maluku releases volcanic ash plume reaching 2,600 meters on Saturday (18/11/23), the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported.
Currently standing at 1,335 meters, Gunung Dukono is under a Level II alert status, signifying a cautious approach. The volcano's main crater expelled billows of white and gray smoke with an intense reach spanning 200 to 3,000 meters from its summit.
PVMBG reported 49 instances of eruption earthquakes with amplitudes ranging from 6 to 34 millimeters and earthquake durations between 30.36 to 73.14 seconds.
Observers at the Gunung Dukono Observation Post advise tourists to refrain from activities such as hiking and approaching the Malupang Warirang Crater within a two-kilometer radius. Local residents around Gunung Dukono are urged to keep masks or face covers readily available to avoid the hazards of volcanic ash.
