Ahmad Basuki, a staff at the Mount Ibu Monitoring Post, said in a statement received by antaranews.com on Monday (25/9/2023) that the eruption took place at 07:12 local time. The eruption was characterized by a thick, gray ash column.
"Seismograms recorded the eruption with a maximum amplitude of 28 millimeters, lasting roughly 1 minute and 36 seconds," he said.
The eruption did not pose an immediate threat to nearby residential areas, as they are situated at a safe distance, approximately six to seven kilometers from the volcano's crater. Nevertheless, PVMBG has advised the public not to engage in activities within a radius of two kilometers and to expand the sectoral exclusion zone to 3.5 kilometers to the north of the crater.
Mount Ibu has been on alert status since December 10, 2013. PVMBG recorded that it has erupted 33 times from January 1, 2023, to September 25, 2023. Mount Ibu is a stratovolcano with an elevation of 2,825 meters above sea level.
