Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources reported two eruptions from Mount Ili Lewotolok in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Tuesday (24/10). Stanislaus Ara Kian, the officer at the Mount Ili Lewotolok Observation Post, stated that the initial eruption took place at 05.08 am, followed by a second eruption at 05.17 am with a volcanic ash slide heading west and northwest. He emphasized, "Residents living near valleys or rivers that originate from the top of Mount Ili Lewotolok are urged to remain vigilant regarding potential lava hazards, especially during the rainy season." The first eruption released an ash column roughly 500 meters high towards the west and northwest. The ash column exhibited a gray hue with medium to high intensity. Seismographic records indicate a maximum amplitude of 30.6 millimeters and a duration of 44 seconds. The subsequent eruption expelled gray ash up to 600 meters westward, recorded with a maximum amplitude of 25.6 millimeters and a duration of 42 seconds. "The threat of eruption is presently distant from residential areas," he assured. PVMBG issued a caution to residents of Lamawolo, Lamatokan, and Jontona villages to remain vigilant for potential lava avalanches and hot clouds from the eastern side of Mount Ili Lewotolok's crater. They strongly recommended the use of masks and protective gear to shield eyes and skin, mitigating any health issues stemming from volcanic ash exposure. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
