Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. In a grim update, Abdul Malik, the Head of the Search and Rescue (SAR) office in Padang, West Sumatera, has confirmed the tragic death of 11 climbers following the eruption of Mount Marapi on Sunday.
"Until 7.10 am today, the joint-team was able to find three climbers in a safe condition, and 11 others were found deceased," he said on Monday (4/12/2024).
Of the 75 people identified by the joint team, 49 have been evacuated and are in stable condition, antaranews.com reported.
The evacuated climbers received medical attention, with some being taken to hospitals in Bukittinggi and Padang Panjang for intensive care. The ongoing evacuation process from the summit of Mount Marapi aimed to bring every climber to safety.
As the search continues, efforts were focused on locating the whereabouts of the remaining 12 climbers. SAR Padang has been engaging in the process of identifying the deceased victims.
