Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Mount Semeru erupted on Sunday nigh (11/1/2026)t, sending a pyroclastic flow up to five kilometers from the crater and prompting authorities to reinforce public safety restrictions on the border of Lumajang and Malang regencies in East Java.
“An eruption of Mount Semeru occurred at 10.25 pm, producing a pyroclastic density current with a runout distance of approximately five kilometers,” Semeru Observation Post officer Sigit Rian Alfian said in an official report quoted by antaranews.com.
The eruption column was observed rising about 2,000 meters above the summit, with thick white-to-gray ash drifting east and southeast. Seismic instruments recorded a maximum amplitude of 27 millimeters with a duration of 696 seconds.
Mount Semeru remains at Alert Level III. Authorities have prohibited all activities within five kilometers of the summit and along the Besuk Kobokan river corridor due to ongoing risks of hot clouds, lava flows, and the volcanic mudflow.
