Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  On Tuesday (9/4/2024), Mount Semeru erupted, propelling volcanic ash a kilometer above its summit, Mahameru. This activity recurred thrice, with subsequent eruptions at 7:51 pm and 10:34 pm local time, as per antaranews.com. Despite these eruptions, Mount Semeru remains at Alert Level III. T he PVMBG advises avoiding activities within the southeast sector, along Besuk Kobokan up to 13 km from the peak. Within 500 meters of the riverbank along Besuk Kobokan, refraining from activities is crucial due to potential pyroclastic flow expansion and lava mudflow up to 17 km from the peak. A five-kilometer radius from the crater/peak of Mount Semeru is restricted due to the risk of rockfall. Vigilance against potential pyroclastic flows, lava flows, and lava mudflow along rivers originating from the peak, particularly along Besuk Kobokan, Besuk Bang, Besuk Kembar, and Besuk Sat, is strongly advised, as well as in small rivers tributary to Besuk Kobokan.
