Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has declared that Eid al-Fitr 2024 falls on Wednesday (10/4/2024) following the isbat session on Tuesday (9/4/2024).
Isbat refers to the formal confirmation of the sighting of hilal, or the new moon, used in Islamic jurisprudence to determine the beginning of lunar months like Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
"Based on the calculations of the hilal's position in Indonesia and the sighting reports of the hilal, it is agreed that the 1st of Shawwal in the year 1445 Hijri will fall on Wednesday, 10 April 2024," said Minister o Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, as reported by antaranews.com.
This decision confirmed that Indonesian Muslims celebrate Eid Al-Fitr on the same day this year.
Muslims may observe Eid AL Fitr differently due to different methods used to determine the beginning of Eid. The most common method are Hisab, which relies on mathematical calculations and astronomical predictions, and Rukyah, or moon sighting.
The isbat session was attended by representatives from religious organizations, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), astronomy experts, and other invited guests.
