Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Cold lava flood tremors from Mount Semeru in Lumajang, East Java, endured for almost 5 hours due to heavy rainfall on Wednesday.

Yadi Yuliandi, an observer at the Mount Semeru Observation Post, reported on Thursday (18/4/2024) a single flood tremor earthquake lasting nearly 5 hours, with an amplitude of 20 mm.

In addition there were 33 eruption/explosion earthquakes and five landslide earthquakes. Mount Semeru was obscured by fog, with no observable crater smoke. The weather was cloudy with rain, and winds were light to moderate, blowing northward.

The prolonged tremors caused significant damage to the embankment in Sumber Kajang Hamlet, Jugosari Village, according to antaranews.com.

Mount Semeru erupted again at 12:34 am on Thursday, with an observed eruption column reaching about 800 meters above the peak. The ash column was white to gray, with thick intensity southwestward.

The eruption lasted 134 seconds, recorded on seismographs with a maximum amplitude of 22 mm.
