Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jayapura Immigration Office in Papua pursued legal action against eight Papua New Guinean (PNG) nationals for immigration violations.
Muhammad Akmal, the office's head, said on Thursday (18/4/2024), "We will collaborate with the Prosecutor's Office, Police, Customs, Animal Quarantine, Fisheries, and Plants to prosecute these eight PNG nationals."
He said that the suspects were arrested separately. In the first case, four suspects were detained for possessing marijuana and illegal fuel by a maritime patrol task force. In the second case, a suspect was arrested for attempting to sell sea clams and snails without proper travel documents.
"In the third case, three suspects were caught transporting illegal betel nuts," he added, as reported by antaranews.com.
Seven of the suspects violated Article 119 paragraph 1 of Immigration Law Number 6 of 2011 on Immigration, facing up to five years in prison and a fine of Rp 500 million.
They were also charged for violating Article 113, with a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a fine of Rp100 million.
Akmal advised all travelers to PNG to ensure they have the necessary documents, including passports and cross-border travel permits.
