Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ketapang Naval Base intercepted a smuggling attempt involving 11.1 tons of illegal onions at Ketapang Port, West Kalimantan, on Thursday.
Ketapang Naval Base Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Halim in a statement on Friday (6/6/2025) that the operation was conducted by the Fleet One Quick Response team (F1QR) at Ketapang Naval Base following community reports of trucks frequently carrying illegal goods at Pelindo Port, Sukabangun district.
He said the team monitored trucks aboard the KM Dharma Ferry II ship bound for Java. One truck was found carrying onions concealed by cardboard boxes. The onions lacked quarantine documents and certificates of origin, suggesting they were smuggled from Malaysia.
Authorities seized 680 sacks totaling 11.1 tons of onions, valued at approximately Rp 227.3 million (about USD 15,000), with a market price of Rp 388.5 million. The truck and two suspects—a goods owner and the truck driver—were detained for further investigation.
