Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.   The Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) prevented the departure of an Indonesian citizen, who was allegedly recruited illegally to work as an online gambling operator in Cambodia.

“Initial investigation revealed a recruiter based in Cambodia, identified as R, lured the man, identified as MZ, with a Rp1 0 million monthly salary to work in online gambling. Another accomplice, identified as A, was stationed in Tanjungpinang,” said Imam Riyadi, the Head of BP3MI Riau Islands, on Saturday (7/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Suspect R had planned MZ’s departure route from Medan in Medan to Batam in Riau Islands, then to Tanjungpinang Port, before heading to Malaysia as a transit point to Phnom Penh. BP3MI officials intercepted MZ at Tanjungpinang Port on June 4, preventing further travel.

MZ, who originated from North Sumatra, has been questioned by local police and is currently housed in a BP3MI shelter. Authorities are investigating A, while R remains at large in Cambodia.
