inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani asked the government not to obscure history in writing the latest version of history which will be completed in August 2025, coinciding with the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
"What is important is that there is no obscuring or rewriting of history, and then not straightening out history," said Puan at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (5/20/2025).
According to her, Commission X of DPR has held a public hearing that asked for input from the public, especially from historians. On the other hand, according to her, the commission will ask for an explanation from the government regarding the writing of the latest version of Indonesian history.
The writing of the latest version of history needs to show the younger generation that Indonesia was founded by many struggles. She said that Indonesia was founded after going through a dark, bitter, and hard times.
On the other hand, she also asked the government not to rush in compiling the latest version of history. Because the writing of the history of this nation must be done carefully.
Previously, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon targeted the writing of the latest version of Indonesian history to be completed in August 2025 to coincide with the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia which is commemorated every August 17.
Fadli Zon is optimistic that the target will be achieved considering that the history writing project was carried out by more than 100 history experts from various universities in Indonesia.
He said that the revised, added, or corrected parts also followed the results of expert studies and previously written Indonesian history books.
