inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency BNPB recorded 1,189 deaths from floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra provinces, based on updated data as of Monday (1/12/2026).

The Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, stated that the deaths comprised 550 in Aceh, 375 in North Sumatra, and 231 in West Sumatra, while 33 others were still being identified.

In addition to the fatalities, BNPB recorded 141 people missing and 195,542 displaced. North Aceh Regency had the highest number of displaced people, with 67,876.

He explained that the government was not only focusing on updating disaster impact data during the emergency status in various regions, including extending the emergency response period in six regencies in Aceh Province, but also ensuring accelerated recovery during the emergency transition phase in dozens of regencies and cities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

He further stated that, among other things, during the recovery phase, BNPB is prioritizing meeting vital infrastructure needs, particularly the construction of 270 Bailey bridges across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"To date, 20 bridges have been installed, and another 10 are in the process," he explained, as reported by Antaranews on Wednesday (January 14, 2026).

Abdul Muhari stated that in Aceh, the government has deployed 117 Aramco bridges to expedite the restoration of access to isolated areas. One of these is the Jamur Ujung Bailey Bridge on the Bireuen-Takengon section, which is now accessible to four-wheeled vehicles.
