inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that the government continues to monitor the condition of an underage Indonesian citizen (WNI) who is being held by Jordanian authorities on suspicion of supporting the terrorist organization ISIS.
"From the beginning, we have provided assistance, and most recently, we have been granted permission to visit the individual in juvenile detention," said Minister Sugiono on Wednesday (1/14/2026).
He confirmed that assistance and protection efforts will be intensified given that the individual is still a minor, while adding that his office will review the case more comprehensively.
Acting Director for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Heni Hamidah, previously stated that an Indonesian citizen underage, identified by the initials KL, has been in Jordanian custody since May 19, 2025, on suspicion of supporting ISIS activities.
The Indonesian Embassy in Amman received information about the arrest on the same day. KL's arrest was for alleged involvement in online activities suspected of supporting ISIS.
The child has already appeared in five court appearances in the juvenile court in Amman, and the sixth hearing will resume on January 13.
The Indonesian government and the Indonesian Embassy in Amman have ensured that the legal process will be carried out with a focus on child protection principles, specifically ensuring access to legal assistance and treatment appropriate to the Indonesian citizen's status as a child.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also communicated with the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Jordanian Embassy in Jakarta regarding this case.
