Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  In response to a magnitude 5.5 aftershock in Taiwan on Monday afternoon (22/4/2024), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs  confired that no Indonesian citizens were harmed.

Judha Nugraha, the Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities Abroad, said in a statement, "Following coordination with the Indonesian Economic and Trade Office (KDEI)  in Taipei and local authorities, we can confirm that no Indonesian citizens were affected by the aftershock."

Continuous monitoring of the situation in Hualien, Taiwan, where the aftershock occurred, is being conducted by both the Foreign and KDEI in Taipei, he said, as reported by antaranews.com.

Since the earthquake on 3 April 2024, aftershocks have persisted, mainly centered in Hualien. The initial 7.4 magnitude earthquake resulted in 10 fatalities and over 1,000 injuries.

"This afternoon, there have been 13 aftershocks, with the strongest measuring 5.5 magnitude," Judha noted.
