Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that no Indonesian citizens were among the victims of the recent mass shooting in Maine, United States.
"The Indonesian Consulate General in New York has coordinated with local authorities and contacted the Indonesian community in the vicinity of Maine. So far, there are no Indonesian citizens among the victims," said Judha Nugraha, the Director of the Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities at the Foreign Ministry, in a brief message on Thursday evening (26/10/2023).
According to data from The Indonesian Consulate General New York, one Indonesian citizen resides in Maine.
The Consulate General has issued a reminder for Indonesian citizens to be vigilant regarding the increasing incidence of gun violence in the United States, he added.
The mass shooting at Schemengees Bar and Grille and Sparetime Recreation Bowling Alley in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday resulted in 22 fatalities and around 50 people injured.
Local police have identified Robert R. Card, a 40-year-old, as the suspect in this case. Card is identified as a trained firearms instructor and a member of the U.S. Army Reserve with recent reports of mental health issues, including auditory hallucinations.
