Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police  (INP) Traffic Corps clarified on Saturday (22/11/2025) that motorists will no longer be required to bring the Vehicle Ownership Document (BPKB) for annual validation of their vehicle registration (STNK).

“BPKB is valid once for each ownership. As long as the vehicle has not changed hands, there is no need to bring BPKB for the annual STNK validation,” said Brigadier General Wibowo, the Director of Registration and Identification  of the Traffic Corps, as reported by antaranews.com.

He explained that the directive is based on Law No. 22/2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation and National Police Regulation (Perpol) No. 7/2021 on Motor Vehicle Registration.

Motorists may validate their STNK either by visiting local Samsat offices or using the official SIGNAL online app. For both options, only the ID card, the original STNK, and a power of attorney (if represented) are required.

However, Chief WIbowo stressed that owners must visit the One-stop Administration Services Office.(Samsat) offices in person for the fifth-year renewal, bringing the BPKB, the vehicle for physical inspection, and identity documents. The physical check confirms engine and chassis numbers to prevent fraud and document misuse.
