Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. The Narcotics and Organized Crime Investigation Unit at the North Sumatra Regional Police arrested NW for deceiving a victim into paying Rp 1.2 billion (around USD 76,345) for entry into the Police Academy (Akpol).
Senior Superintendent Sumaryono, the Director of the Narcotics and Organized Crime Investigation Unit, confirmed her arrest in the Percut Sei Tuan area of Deli Serdang Regency on Thursday (21/3/2024).
NW allegedly defrauded the victim, Afnir, on August 25, 2023, promising admission to the Police Academy for their child in exchange for Rp 1.2 billion.
After months with no admission, Afnir reported the fraud to North Sumatra Police on February 8, 2024.
Chief Sumaryono said that investigators seized evidence, including cell phones, receipts, electronic records, money transfer receipts, and bank statements, as reported by antaranews.com.
Sixteen witnesses were questioned, resulting in four similar reports.
NW faces charges under Article 372 and 378 of the Criminal Code for embezzlement and fraud.
