Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Traffic Corps clarified that driving without valid physical driver's license (SIM) and vehicle registration (STNK) is against the law.
Brigadier General Raden Slamet Santoso, Director of Law Enforcement at the INP Traffic Corps, emphasized that motorists found without these documents may face immediate penalties from on-duty traffic police officers.
This clarification aimed to address misinformation circulating on social media, suggesting that showing a photo or making a video call to someone at home could serve as evidence to the police, as reported by antaranews.com.
"When fined, you must present the required documents on the spot. Showing them over the phone is not accepted," he said on Thursday (21/3/2024).
Chief Slamet highlighted that a photo or video of an STNK or SIM is considered electronic information, not a valid electronic document, as per Law No. 11 of 2008 on Electronic Information and Transactions.
"Therefore, it cannot be considered valid evidence," he asserted.
Chief Slamet urged the public not to accept information on social media without verifying its accuracy. Motorists should continue to carry their STNK and SIM while driving to avoid fines for violating regulations.
