The North Sumatra Regional Police, led by the Directorate of Narcotics Crime Investigation Unit, has foiled the smuggling of 45 kilogram of crystal methamphetamine from Malaysia for distribution in Aceh, Medan, and Lampung. This smuggling operation linked to a prior network involving 20 kilogram of crystal methamphetamine, said Senior Superintendent Hadi Wahyudi, North Sumatra Regional Police's Head of Public Relations. "Two out of the six suspects in possession of the 45 kilograms of crystal meth are part of the Aceh-Medan-Lampung drug network," he said on Monday (9/10/23). Suspect M. Yakob, also known as Acob, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with a case involving 20 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. The two suspects in possession of the 45 kilograms of crystal methamphetamines were identified by his initial S, who is Yakob's son-in-law, and MM, who is his biological son. "The two suspects, along with four others, have formed a drug network controlled from inside the prison by suspect N, also known as Agam. Suspects S and MM served as the entry point in exposing the meth network supplied by a Malaysian citizen identified as A," the spokesperson said. From the car driven by the two suspects, the police seized two white plastic burlap sacks, each containing 40 plastic packets weighing 1 kg, resulting in a total of 40 kg of crystal meth. In addition, the police discovered five plastic packages of methamphetamine weighing a combined total of 5 kilogram in the trunk of the car. Their arrests  took place in Langsa City, Aceh. "According to both suspects, the drugs were procured on the instructions of another suspect, identified by his initial W, who is currently under investigation, in Aceh Tamiang. Suspect W directed suspects them  to transport the meth to suspect MR," he explained. The spokesperson added that the police arrested suspects MR and TM in Peureulak, East Aceh. Based on suspect MR's statement, the meth was intended for suspect NF who was later arrested. "The 45 kg of crystal meth that we confiscated from suspect S and MM will be handed over to someone in Lampung on the orders of suspect A, an inmate at the prison," the spokesperson said.
