inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Environment Minister Moh Jumhur Hidayat announced that efforts to extinguish the fire at the Jatiwaringin Final Processing Site (TPA), Tangerang Regency, Banten, have now reduced the area to only about 3.6 percent.

Jumhur stated that the firefighting efforts carried out by the central government, regional governments, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (INP) have succeeded in drastically reducing the area affected by the fire.

"Thanks to the hard work of all parties, including the BNPB, the Tangerang Regency Government, the Ministry of Forestry through Manggala Agni, the Health Office, and support from various ministries, the fire situation continues to improve. From approximately 70 percent of the area originally burned, only about 3.6 percent remains. Hopefully, this afternoon or tomorrow, the fire will be completely extinguished," said Jumhur on Monday (7/6/2026).

He explained that this success was achieved through various simultaneous extinguishing methods, ranging from water bombing, spraying and injecting water into the lower layers of the waste piles, to continuous ground extinguishing.

The government also continues to coordinate to increase helicopter support to ensure optimal extinguishing efforts.

Although the main fire has been brought under control, the Minister of Environment warned that the work is not yet complete. Hot weather conditions still have the potential to trigger fires again if not properly anticipated.

As a national precautionary measure, Jumhur also reminded that the Ministry of Environment and Forestry/Environmental Agency (BPLH) has issued Circular Letter No. 11 of 2026 concerning Preparedness and Anticipation of Fires at Landfills in Extreme Hot Weather Conditions.

This circular serves as a guideline for all regional governments in strengthening fire prevention efforts during the dry season.
