Over 1,400 People in Riau Affected by Flood

Inp.polri.go.id – Pekanbaru. Around 1,400 people or more than 100 families were isolated by flood in Pekanbaru City, Riau Province. The flood reportedly because of Siak river overflowed after downpours in the region for almost two weeks. “We have taken countermeasure initiative by establishing emergency posts at the location,” says the Pekanbaru City Regional Secretary Indra Pomi Nasution on Tuesday (1/9/2024). Indra states that the flood has inundated Meranti Pandak Village, Rumbai District, Jatayu Housing, Marpoyan Damai District and settlements in Palas, Payung Sekaki District. Apart from that, flooding also occurred in the districts of Rumbai Pesisir, Tenayan Raya and Bukit Raya. However, Indra states families evacuated at the evacuation posts are not even that many with only 50 families, while the rest decides to stay at their own places. Meanwhile, Pekanbaru City government have also continuously sent food supplies to the evacuee. “We also sent our doctors to the evacuation post while we remain vigilance with another flood by preparing equipments in Public Works and Public Housing Department," he added. Previously, Pekanbaru City Government has raised the flood situation level to alert since last year to January 31st, 2024. Meanwhile, Pekanbaru Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Council predicts rain will last until the end of January 2024. (ad/ek/pr/nm)
