inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Vice Minister for Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI) Christina Aryani said that participants who will take part in internship programs abroad are included in the category of migrant workers.

"So, yesterday there was indeed a discourse to regulate it. This is also a directive from the Minister so that internships are also included in the migrant worker section," said Christina on Friday (2/14/205).

Christina said that those who take part in internship programs abroad and get paid are the same as working abroad.

"So far, we often hear that many people go for internships. However, it turns out that the internship is not actually in line with their education. Well, this is actually the same as working abroad," said the Deputy Minister of P2MI.

She added that the inclusion of the internship program as part of handling migrant workers aims to ensure that the participants' data is recorded in KP2MI so that they can get legal and social protection.

"So, we can list them and they can be better protected. For that, a revision of the law is needed, Law No. 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Migrant Workers," said the Deputy Minister of P2MI.
