Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. Prosecutors in Banda Aceh have charged a 57-year-old Pakistani man, Muhammad Azeem, for violating Indonesia’s immigration laws after allegedly overstaying his visa and using a false identity.
The indictment was read by Public Prosecutor Luthfan Al-Kamil before a panel led by Judge Fauzi at Banda Aceh District Court on Wednesday (8/10/2025).
“At the time of his arrest, the defendant claimed to be an Indonesian citizen named Mochamad Lukman,” said Prosecutor Luthfan. “However, verification by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Jakarta confirmed he is a Pakistani citizen.”
Azeem reportedly entered Indonesia legally via Sri Bintan Port in February 2024 and traveled across several provinces selling calligraphy art. He later obtained an Indonesian ID card under a false name in Sintang, West Kalimantan, before being arrested in Banda Aceh.
He is charged under Article 122 point a of Law No. 6/2011 on Immigration, which carries a prison sentence of up to five years.
