Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The Palembang Sub-Regional Large City Police have revealed a total of 67 cases of motorcycle theft in the area over the past three weeks. "The joint team of the Palembang Sub-Regional Large City Police's Criminal Investigation Unit and Sub-Regional Police forces have uncovered 67 motorcycle theft cases from late November to mid-December 2023," said Police Senior Superintendent Harryo Sugihhartono, Chief of Palembang Sub-Regional Large City Police, on Wednesday (20/12/23). He clarified that among the 67 motorcycle theft cases, four were associated with violent thefts, leading to the arrestof 32 motorcycle thieves. "Of these 32 offenders, it has been revealed that six are repeat criminals," he noted. Underlining the importance of public vigilance, he recommended implementing extra security measures for parked motorcycles and exercising caution when riding alone. Furthermore, he highlighted the criminals' tactics, which involve damaging motorcycle ignition keys with T or Y-shaped keys and employing intimidation techniques such as climbing fences with weapons during their operations.
