Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Coordinating Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD stated that the Indonesian government will no longer build temporary shelters for Rohingya refugees due to the rising numbers linked to a human trafficking crimes (TPPO) network.
"There are TPPO mafias. Those arrested yesterday intentionally bring them here (to Indonesia) and later send them everywhere. It's for becoming illegal workers, escaping first to Indonesia because they know Indonesians are kind," he explained.
Consequently, government-provided shelters are full as the influx of Rohingya refugees in Indonesia rises, and local communities, such as in Aceh, living alongside them, have expressed their opposition.
"So, the shelters are full now. Even the local communities, like in Aceh, reject it. Therefore, we (the government) will not build them again, but surely, for humanitarian reasons, assistance will be provided," he said.
He further noted that the government is currently exploring alternative locations to temporarily accommodate Rohingya ethnic refugees, stating, "They are currently being temporarily housed, and for the more immediate solutions, still under discussion, with considerations for locations, costs, and more."
