Inp.polri.go.id - Palu. The Palu Immigration Office in Central Sulawesi deported a German researcher, identified as Vlad Alexandru Tataru, on Monday (23/3/2026) after he was caught conducting unauthorized biological research and collecting endemic flora within the Lore Lindu National Park.
"He entered Indonesia using a Visa on Arrival, which is strictly prohibited for conducting research activities," said Palu Immigration Office Head Muhammad Akmal during a press briefing, as cited by antaranews.com.
Investigations revealed that Tataru had gathered numerous plant samples without mandatory permits from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). Immigration officials explained that the deportation serves as a firm enforcement of residency laws and a measure to protect Indonesia’s biological sovereignty.
Consequently, Tataru has been placed on a restricted entry list, barring him from returning to the country for a designated period. Authorities urged all foreigner researchers to strictly adhere to research protocols to ensure the preservation of Indonesia's natural resources.
