Inp.polri.go.id – Papua. Following recent violations in Papua, Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri has made various moves to reassert order and security in the province. In support of recovering the situation in Sugapa District, Papua Regional Police recommended the reopening of Bilogai Airport last Friday (2/9/2024). The airport was closed following the gunshots and fire incident by the Armed Crimal Group (KKB) in the district. Fakhiri says that the situation in Intan Jaya has recovered significantly. “The situation has been growing conducively in Intan Jaya. However, I still want to implore the sub-regional police [of Intan Jaya] to further strengthen your force and prepare anticipatory measures,” says Fakhiri on Friday (2/9/2024). Fakhiri states that he has communicated with the Acting Governor of Central Papua, Ribka Haluk, to ask that the Acting Regent of Intan Jaya, Apolos Bagau, to come down and have a direct conversation with the people. He believes that this move would be able to assert a sense of comfort and security ahead of the 2024 General Election. The police chief also underscored that the situation in Paniai Regency has returned to normal after a gunshot incident between security officials and KKB in Baya Biru Airstrip. The incident caused police and civilians to suffer a gun wound. Furthermore, Fakhiri also reveals that his party has prepared various security measures in several locations including Puncak Regency, Central Papua Province, and Bintang Mountains Regency and Lanny Jaya in Papua Mountains Province. “In general, we have done everything to face every kinds of situations,” conclude Fakhiri.
