Parliament Members Calls Demonstrators to Convey Aspiration in Peace

Vice Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Ahmad Sahroni, requested that the demonstration held by a joint labor group at the parliament complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (8/28/2025), be carried out peacefully and without any party taking advantage of it.

"Don't let anyone take advantage of the demonstration that was carried out well by fellow workers," said Sahroni, Thursday (8/28/2025).

He also advised the workers to help maintain security and order during their demonstration.

According to Sahroni, aspirations need to be channeled wisely and professionally, and in accordance with the rules. When the time is up, the workers are to leave the location peacefully.

"Please convey your concerns for the workers throughout Indonesia, what is conveyed to us, the parliament, is to be conveyed professionally, wisely," said Sahroni.

The demonstration carried out by the mass of workers who are members of the Coalition of Trade Unions and Labor Parties (KSP-PB) on Thursday is attended by thousands of workers from the Greater Jakarta area and also held simultaneously in other regions.

The protesters raised six main demands. First, eliminate outsourcing and reject low wages (HOSTUM). They demanded an increase in the 2026 Minimum Wage by 8.5 to 10.5 percent.

Second, stop layoffs and establish a Layoff Task Force. Third, reform the labor tax system, including an increase in non-taxable income (PTKP) to IDR 7.5 million per month, eliminate severance pay, eliminate holiday allowance (THR) tax, eliminate old-age security (JHT) tax, and eliminate tax discrimination against married women.

Fourth, pass the Manpower Bill without the Omnibus Law. Fifth, pass the Asset Confiscation Bill and eradicate corruption. Sixth, revise the Election Bill to redesign the 2029 election system.
