Nahdlatul Ulama Central Executive Board (PBNU) Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf appreciated the implementation of the Nusantara Cooling System (NCS) operation, which he said had effectively maintained public order ahead of the 2024 elections. "I am very grateful that the situation in society is very favourable so far. This means that the strategy of the authorities, including the Indonesian National Police (INP), in maintaining order has been quite successful," he said during a meeting with Head of the INP's NCS operation, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri, on Tuesday (28/11/2023). The NCS delegation also visited the Grand Imam of the Istiqlal Mosque, Nasaruddin Umar, to seek support and cooperation in encouraging the Indonesians to maintain national unity as the 2024 elections approach, antaranews.com reported. Grand Imam Nasaruddin called on the people, especially Muslims, to observe the election atmosphere with joy. He urged the three pairs of presidential and vice-presidential candidates to compete objectively and positively. The Grand Imam expressed the hope that there would be no issues of primordialism and racism, especially identity politics. The first day of the campaign period for the 2024 presidential election began, as determined by the General Election Commission (KPU), which set the campaign period for the 2024 presidential election from 28 November 2023 to 10 February 2024.
