Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. A joint police team arrested four suspects involved in a Malaysia-linked drug trafficking network, seizing 207 kilograms of methamphetamine and 90,000 ecstasy pills.
The operation was conducted by the Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police Director of Narcotics and the West Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Unit of Narcotics Unit .
“Four suspects are now in custody,” said Senior Superintendent Donald Parlaungan Simanjuntak, the Metro Jaya Police Director of Narcotics, during a press briefing on Wednesday (6/11/2024).
The suspects are identified as AM alias B, A, JI, and AS.
The seized narcotics have an estimated black-market value of Rp 418 billion. The investigation began with the arrest of suspect AS in South Jakarta in July, where authorities found 48 kilograms of meth hidden in a car’s compartments.
Further leads led to additional arrests in Riau, according to antaranews.com.
“The drugs came from Malaysia and were transported to Bengkalis by fishing boat before reaching Jakarta,” Chief Donald said.
The suspects face charges under Indonesia’s narcotics law, with penalties ranging from five years to the death penalty.
