The Banten Regional Police Directorate of General Criminal Investigation has named the Head of the Environmental Care Community (MPL), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), MS (51), as a suspect in an alleged extortion of IDR 400 million from an industrial waste management company in Serang Regency.
Head of Public Relations of the Banten Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Didik Hariyanto, said that the arrest was part of the police's commitment to eradicating thuggery in its jurisdiction.
"The thuggery was carried out by the Head of the MPL NGO by making a report as if there had been environmental pollution by PT Wahana Pamunah Limbah Industri (WPLI)," said Didik during a press conference at the Banten Regional Police Headquarters, Serang City, Wednesday (6/10/2025).
According to Didik, the suspect then reported the alleged pollution to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) and pressured the company to provide organizational development funds of IDR 15 million per month for 20 months, as well as operational funds of IDR 100 million.
"The total loss incurred by PT WPLI reached IDR 400 million," said Didik.
